Delivered at our Royal Docks Training Centre from 10am - 1pm.

Originally developed for our annual Summer School in Wales, we have been working over the last 7 years to develop this introduction to Psychological First Aid (PFA) using our extensive experience in the field of rescue and crisis response.

Psychological First Aid (PFA) is recognised internationally for supporting people during emergencies and offers guidance on delivering psychosocial care in the immediate aftermath of a traumatic event.

This 3 hour course is a basic introduction into self care and identifying and signposting others around you to the relevant organisations who specialise in mental health. It can be used in everyday settings, but also in preparation for providing emergency response services.

The self care element of this course is built around the Atlantic Pacific’s B.A.S.E principles of Breathing, Action, Sleeping and Eating, which enables you to understand the basic principles of how to maintain your own mental health and those of your immediate family, friends and colleagues. The course gives practical tips around small changes we can introduce into our lives to help with maintaining and protecting our mental health. These practical tips can also be brought into businesses and organisations wanting to create a positive mental health work environment.

The second part of the session is dedicated to understanding and learning how you can deliver PFA. This is centered around the Prepare, Look, Listen and Link principles which have been championed by the World Health Organisation. These principles, brought from studies of crises response, prepares you to help look out for those you see everyday, to those in crises.

This course is very much an introduction to the principles, and does not detail the various mental health conditions or talk in detail about symptoms and treatment. There are other fantastic courses out there that you can source this specific training from.

This course has been developed by Atlantic Pacific and is based on guidance from the World Health Organisation and AP partners.
