Japan Summer Camp 2022

August 1 (Mon) – 5 (Fri) 2022

Kamaishi, Iwate Prefecture

Enjoy a unique experience

Open to 13-18-year-olds and funded by The Nippon Foundation as part of the Umi to Nihon Project, the Atlantic Pacific Japan Summer Camp is a fantastic opportunity for young people to gain a rounded learning experience in a bi-lingual environment.

As well as being fun and exciting, the camp is a valuable educational opportunity and a great life experience. It offers a rare chance to learn about communication, teamwork and leadership skills in a fun setting.

Participants will meet new people, interacting with others of a similar age from across Japan.

Practice your English

Our camp is safe, welcoming and friendly and we encourage all our students to engage with each other and to practice their English in this supportive setting.

Learn about the history of the Great East Japan earthquake and tsunami and about ways in which search & rescue and sea-safety awareness can protect us all, should any similar events occur in future.

Visit beautiful Kamaishi

Kamaishi is a beautiful place to visit, relax and spend time and our camp builds your confidence to enjoy the coast safely, by introducing you to sea-based activities including swimming, sailing and fishing.

Our presence in Kamaishi helps support ongoing recovery since the 2011 Tsunami and we collaborate closely with other local groups to help us deliver our camp, while engaging the local community.

To add to the experience, our participants get the opportunity to eat local seafood at its freshest, which they often say is one of the highlights of the camp!

Learn expert skills

Our search & rescue and lifeboat experiences provide essential skills and knowledge, taught by our team of highly experienced and qualified experts. You will be thoroughly educated about how to spend time safely in and around the water by our instructors, who all have RYA instructor licences, which are an internationally recognised qualification.

Protect the ocean

Underlining all our activities is a focus on sustainability, driven by our organisation’s commitment to the U.N. sustainable development goals. To bring this to life, all students will attend a design workshop event, focused on generating creative ideas to tackle ocean plastic in Kamaishi.

Atlantic Pacific is inextricably linked to the sea and this element of the course ensures that we educate and equip all our young participants to respect and protect the ocean, as well as enjoying it safely.
